Here we have yet another release from these epic viking metal masters. This time, it’s in the form of an EP which contains more material (time wise) than many other typical full-length albums. This album only contains one new song (Tulimyrsky), but being 29.45 minutes long, it can hardly be counted as any old one song.
This EP also contains re-recorded versions of Taistelu Pohjolasta and Hvergelmir, which are tracks from Moonsorrow’s demo days. As expected with re-recorded demo tracks, these are done with better production, but otherwise there's nothing unexpected to them.
“Tulimyrsky” also contains two cover tracks: Metallica’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls” (from their Ride The Lightning album) and Merciless’s “Back To North” (from their Unbound album). Both these covers have received the full Moonsorrow treatment, where the original versions seem to have their inner viking unleashed upon an unsuspecting audience.
Overall, this is a well done EP, especially the cover of “Back To North”, which is an absolutely incredible track, and easily the best song on this album. This is the exact type of song that suits Moonsorrow’s style, because it simply makes complete sense for an epic band to cover an epic song, it just mixes seamlessly.
