The last two albums had nothing to do with black metal, due the limited possibilities Varg had in prison and were more dark ambient albums.
Out of prison he took time to write and record a genuine blackmetal album. He definetely succeeded in that.
It is in my opinion one of the best BM albums released in the last few years. Besides the intro and outro (which could easily been on Daudis Baldr or Hlidskjalf) Varg shows he is musicaly still a force to be reckon with. His vocals are strong and varies between clean and the Filosofem style.
The production is also very good, the guitar sound is not that typical high frequency black metal sound like most BM productions.
Highpoints of this album: Belus' Død and Glemselens Elv.
