the BBC is probably the last news outlet i would consider for learning the truth out there, especially regarding events in my part of the world. So many overblown eyecatching headlines which are actually framed to defame the image of people of the land or in this case to depict the failure of institutions. I can say for sure that all the local media here and some of the western media almost all the time highlights negative stories even though they might affect less than .0005 % of the population concerned. Propaganda in the name of informing is the way i see it. Anyways from a psychological perspective how are people supposed to focus on their daily lives when there are a hundred fears about the world around them that they heard in the news
Media has by far had the most dominating affect in transforming human socialisation over the past two decades and we are now at a stage where even the most insignificant new trend is worshipped by the audience to the point where they forget what the idea originally was. Similarly factors dominating world politics and security are thought to be those which the media brings up the most, not which require the most urgent attention, as a result we see that the youth of today knows tidbits so many different things but can't express their point of view on even one of them for more than a few sentences. |

So Lunar, are you saying the stories are untrue, or the stories are true but the BBC shouldn't report them? |

I mean that the way the BBC portrays countries like Pakistan like they are some kind of african jungle is untrue. They want the world to think that Pakistan is just a land of terrorists or impoverished and scared people. There are a lot of good things about the city where i live but all i see on the BBC is beggars, drug addicts, domestic violence and child prostitution in Karachi. How about showing the peaceful and productive life of the university students here for once. The British have never rid themselves of the colonialist mindset which is not hard to understand when its been part of their lives for centuries. Most people here are well aware of how they are percieved by the Anglo-Saxons. During the late 19th century Muslims specifically bore the brunt of British wrath in India (economically brought to their knees by denial of all major job opportunities, not to mention many cases of massacres by British troops of unarmed Indians) as a backlash for their participation in the anticolonial revolt of 1857, somehow it is rather impossible to compensate for that damage or as according to Marx for the centuries of economic plunder of its prized colony http://www.marxists.org/archive/kautsky/1907/colonial/5-oldstyle.htm This is just my opinion in view of my study of history, connected by my assesment of the mass media on the basis of sociological theories, nothing personal |

Leaving aside the fact that India went to shit when the British left, with Muslims and Hindus killing each other, it's not like the BBC has singled out Pakistan for criticism. If you pay attention to their reporting of Britain, you would think we are all workshy hooligans living on run-down council estates.
Again, nothing personal. |
