Thank you supersmoke for a logical answer. \,,/
I think the whole "core" sub-genre started with acts like Korn, Deftones, Fear Factory, and sure, maybe even a few of Pantera's songs (which I think inspired core more than was core, much like Alice In Chains -- Pantera and Alice In Chains in my opinion are "Metal" genre standards).
...and even further back you've got bands like the legendary Faith No More paving the way first. _________________ Death to false metal. \,,/

Korn inspired Nu Metal and so did Faith No More. Core just came out of the people that liked Death Metal and Punk. Or a band that was half and half and combined the two. _________________ Religion is true for the common man.

Nu Metal... *shiver* Papa Roach needs to be stepped on.
I don't know about that bro... Core has way too many traditional elements that punk lacks (I LOVE punk, so don't get me wrong), like technical guitar solos, breakdowns and (often) vocalists that try to emulate (or are) classically trained singers.
I can see, though, how bands like Korn and Faith No More were bigger influences on Nu Metal rather than Core. _________________ Death to false metal. \,,/
core is metal where everything possible is stripped away.... so typically what remains is not much..... _________________ i am so ebil that i piss darkness

Core's roots actually are from punk. Nu-metal came about all on its own. _________________ ヽヽ༼༼ຈຈل͜ل͜ຈຈ༽༽ノノ TURN DOWN THAT MUSIC IT'S SHAKING MY HOUSE

I would really like to know how the step from punk vocals jumped to the piggish grindcore. Where is the missing link in that?

Edit:
Screaming > ??????? > Breeeeeee
I dont get it.
some hard core punk bands used harsh vocals and some of them used "snorts" as effect. This is based more on rumors than facts because i have not heard any of these snorters...
but these bands unknown to me could be missing link between punk and core... _________________ i am so ebil that i piss darkness

I was thinking about this yesterday, and suddenly remembered a punk song that came out of fucking nowhere back in 2002...
I had picked up a new punk compilation, and one of the tracks on it made me pull over to park and see what the hell band it was.
The track is "Second Heartbeat" by Avenged Sevenfold:
Avenged Sevenfold may be newer as far as Punk is concerned (formed 1999), but no one can argue against their punk credibility. That song, at the time, was like nothing I had ever heard before and it was actually pretty god damn exciting to hear that evolution in music occurring.
Years later on a local radio station (2008 maybe) they played a metalcore song by the same band.
Interesting stuff.

Hardcore is a sub-genre of techno:

Avenged Sevenfold was actually a Christian band for a while. Although their music isnt of my taste their drummer is one of the best main stream i have heard in some time.
I listened to the song and i can see where you are coming from. You can sorts hear the line being crossed...
