this is interesting topic, and i think only small part of metal bands satanists are satans worshipers, paganists or whatever, but anti-Christian, or anti religious. Many bands are actually non believers (atheists believes in atheism) rather than satanists/pagans. Surely there are many true believers amongst the vast amount of metal musicians. Satanism and paganism are very trendy now days, and the grim metal music has started to get more and more popular each day.

I have once popped up a theory about this issue, Music band can have a different religious, political and cultural views than the band is... that what i mean is that a band it self can be religious although the members are not.

Soon this boom of satanism and paganism will be changed we have some marks to figure this one out. Many mainstream bands are former extreme metal bands, mainstream metal is getting closer to extreme metals, and kids are inventing new things to have music and ideologies of their own

I think religion and religious believes are now days much more free to discussion than it was just few years back. Also public is more open to new teachings and religious, and old man from hell is not regarded as evil that it is in believes of Christian church. This has lead i think to devaluation of Satan and trough that opened path for brutality to be considered as entertainment (saw-movies, tarantino etc.). The old Devil is no more to be feared and not many truely belives supernatural events, so only horror now days are based on aliens and sadistic violence, witch is tasteless in some cases.

Anyway the non-christianity of the musicians in certain genres is true does they really really practise their clamed/true religion if any have read publications of satanism, left hand gnossis or similar believes there is an huge amount of job to be a true believers, loads of ritual magick to perform and mental practice as well. Many are supprised when actually looking into some of these religions is that they are not so evil and controversial as you would think.

Maybe some of these guys are really only against the system as it is, or maybe some of them wants to tell their point of view on this eternity thingy thangy what every preacher has such a fuss about.
