From what I heard, he was an alcoholic or drug addict. He tried fighting his addiction but it seems he didn't win the battle...

R.I.P Doc, very good drummer
also the Guitarist from Voivod,Denis D'Amour , recently died from colon cancer so R.I.P to him also
