Cyaegha - technical dm/grind
By: Stuka_Kommandant
Date: 19 Nov 2008
Cyaegha from Yorktown (Virginia) play technical dm/grind and this ist their debut "Steps Of Descent".
It is a nice enrichment here and i'm sure: we'll still hear from these boys! Really cool stuff.

A suprisingly talented upcoming metal band

I'll admit that I am not exactly the most out-going person when it comes to metal, so I don't readily go off trying to find undiscovered gems for the sake of it, but that doesn't mean I won't respect something for what it is. Anyways, a friend of mine approached me with this album, claiming it to be the next big band.

"It's a technical band who plays death metal based on H.P. Lovecraft, and the guitar work (guitar and bass) is actually really good!", he said. Admittedly I was skeptical, but how can you not be with such a delivery? Countless times I been told that a band is amazing, yet they just didn't seem to pique my interest; I guess I have peculiar taste in music.

What I found when listening to this album, is that it reminded me a lot of bands I adore (Cryptopsy, Nile, Cephalic Carnage, Morbid Angel), and yet it didn't at the same time. Like my aforementioned pal had described, the musicianship was impressive--not groundbreaking, but interesting none-the-less-- while the drums and vocals provided an appropriate accompaniment for death metal.

During the albums spin, I took a gander at the albums cover/booklet --it's hard not to when the surface can nearly reflect light-- and it was very well-done. The remaining pages also looked very detailed and well-drawn. As I skimmed to the back pages of the booklet, I saw that the accomplished artist John Coulthart was responsible for the artwork --which explained the attention to detail.

Overall, I would say that this album is a above-average. Normally, I don't feel inclined to write a review on Amazon, but because this is the band's debut, I am making an exception. If you enjoy death metal you'll get your moneys worth from this album--even I still find myself listening to this album occasionally.
