Good or bad news  I never even used MSN once. The only messenger I use is skype...

I use MSN and i think its better then Skype, skype uses too much bandwith and i end up having a ton of issues with it. |

Haven't used such thing in ages.
I do however know quite a few people who still uses MSN and I must say I wouldn't use Skype for text chat myself, so don't know if it is a smart move.
Skype was good before Microsoft bought it (but that is not really a surprise), but that was for what it was intended to to: voice chat.
Nothing beats good old IRC |
