I tried C sharp standard and I got a lot out of it, it has more to offer than a drop tuning. I perfer starndards over drops. Everyone should try them!

In 16 years of playing in bands i used a lot of tunings. But all of them were standard tunings.
Septic Suffering D standard.
Decapitation (NL) D and later Eb standard.
Bowel Rupture E standard.
Côte d'Aver B standard. (7str. BEADGBE, 6 str. BEADGB)
Hell Mary (AUS/NL) E standard.
Grinroth B standard (7str excl.)
Abrupt Demise E standard (i use the 7 str. there, songs written in E.)
Murder of Innocence (NL) B standard (7-str. excl.)

The only band in wich i use also non-standard tunings is a non-metalband.
Hedera Helix (NL)
E-Standard, EADADE and DADGAD,

For metal it would be dropped tuned type stuff. We tune to drop B. But you just cant play chords like you can in standard tuning.

Yea mostly dropped tunings sound a lot better. I prefer dropped C or dropped A. My guitar is mostly on dropped A because I have 7-string guitar.

Bass:
I like to play some songs cranked way high on tuning.
I like to play other really low, perhaps Drop B - or just a five string.

Guitar:
Drop C is awesome.

Randomly distune your guitar, till you find something that lets you play pants-shitting intense chords with a small flick against the strings.

I've done that on one of my cheap guitars. Didn't sound so good.

Really? I usually have good luck with. Just strumming and turning the knobs around till it all comes together, and within a minute I have something that catches my ear.

I've even tried it on a junk First-Act with only the three bass strings left. Had a fun time riffing on that and had about five easy chords(with some of their intervals swapped for another).
