Survival mode is well known fact in several cases of plane crashes etc. humans has been carnavoying the protein sources of the death ones.
The masses has the mind of its own, as one german politic once said, but in this case i bet the hunger is the most key element, maybe the encourasing of friends by eating might have an effect also.
In away it is natural to eat allready dead flesh, but to kill a commrade to have something to eat, it is much more rare
