I was digging thru my vinyl the other day, and a few things stood out as interesting period pieces that were metal before we thought about metal. Figured I'd share a few with you guys.

First off, how about Armageddon before there was the Armageddon you know. This one is from 1975 and has Keith Relf on vocals (Yardbirds and Renaissance), Martin Pugh on guitar (Steamhammer), Bobby Caldwell on drums (Captain Beyond) and Louis Cennamo on bass (Steamhammer and Renaissance). Some pretty cool pre-metal metal, and "Silver Tightrope" would be a doom classic if doom existed back then. Here's the cover:

Or how about some Lord of the Rings before any of the current metal bands thought about writing music based on the trilogy? Bo Hansson on guitar, organ, synthesizer and bass, Rune Carlsson on drums, Gunnar Bergsten on sax, and Sten Bergman on flute. All instrumental, but it could be seen as an early form of folk metal. Cover:

Last for now, one that some of the folks here that are fond of the darker side of metal might like. It's called Black Mass, by Lucifer. Has songs such as Incubus, Voices of the Dead and The Evil Eye. Interesting period piece that also could be seen as a precursor to some what we see in metal now. Cover:

I think I also have the Armageddon LP
at least I'm sure I've seen that cover before.
I'll search my collection one of these days (takes some time => 1 room filled with CDs and LPs Silly around 7000 Snicker )
