Cool site I found. For those of you that live in the USA and occasionally want to download something to give a listen before you buy or just can't find the music commercially anywhere, this site gives you piece of mind:

http://www.riaaradar.com/

Just enter an artist's name and find out if they're on RIAA's radar. Gives a breakdown by album, some albums of the same artist may be and some may not be, depends on the label they were recording with at the time. You can also put in a label name search.

I played around with it awhile, just putting in names of artists. As can be expected, most of what we listen to here is "safe", but there were some surprises, one that comes to mind is that most of Finntroll is on the radar.

Disclaimer: I know this site does not endorse downloading music, and neither do I, but like I said in the first paragraph, there are times...

Nice site, indeed. Thanks for sharing the link. Guess what? Several Moonsorrow albums are on the radar, too. Mad

Yep, I noticed that too, digi. Do you folks have the same lawsuit problems we have? I thought that that was pretty much confined to the USA and England.

I haven't heard of any cases here, yet. I guess we're still busy trying to keep skript kiddies out of the way LOL
Also, I don't know if there are any artists who signed with any of the relevant labels.

i'm not from the US, and right now I don't wish to browse through bunch of pages, so:

what exactly does mean if something is on RIIA's radar?

What is the impact on the end-user (guy who wants to download some stuff?)

thanks

The RIAA is suing downloaders/uploaders for copyright infringement, for HUGE dollars. But they only represent the big 4 record companies and their numerous subsidiaries, and thats where that link comes in handy. Some lables that you would think are indie, are not, they are owned by one of the big 4, and if you get caught either downloading or uploading any of their music they will sue you. Browse this site: http://recordingindustryvspeople.blogspot.com/
its a wealth of info on the lawsuits.
