So for some of you guitarist what sort of guage and tuning you prefer?

Me Drop-B with .09s at the moment, might move up to .11 or .13 for
a thicker tone as long as it doesn't make rapid sweeping arpeggios harder.

You, or perhaps your favorite pedals?

I use standard tuning most of the time, sometimes a littler higher (but rarely), sometims standard DROP-D (also rarely). Most of the time I use .10 or .11 GHS Guitar Boomers Strings.

My distortion pedal is a Ibanez Smash Box; hard distortion and as a bonus you can also filter out noise (Rauschen Wink.

I'd wish I could play arpeggios soon, everything else is ok but sweep picking/arpeggios still is very hard for me.

Well.... I just hardly have the hang of it on some things, somethings are hard on the pinky

So hows that distortion box wild, or thick?

You have the possibilities to change the sound like adding or reducing void and you also can change (besides gain & level) the distortion from smooth to harsh and adjust the "heights" and "lows" via two additional knobs. Also nice is the feature to push the buttons into the box, so your adjustements will stay, even if you kick the box Wink. Also the price dropped over the last months, Thomann want 59 € for it at the moment, and this thing is worth it !

I mostly play in a "wild" setting; void killed, amplified heights & lows and - of course - the distortion set to "sharp".

i play these strings for 2 years now:
http://www.music123.com/Ernie-Ball-2626-Nickel-Not-Even-Slinky-Drop-Tune-Electric-Guitar-Strings-100870-i1122403.Music123
I play on a drop A-Tuning with E string tuned 2 half tunes down to E-Moll.

For distortion i use my beloved Digitech Death Metal pedal, and for Delay my Digitech Digi Delay. I also use the multieffect pedal Zoom55 which rly damn sucks... but for tuning it fits Very Happy

Hej,
I use light 9-46 or so., harder just makes soloing sound less., especially all taping, hammer/pull off stuff imo.

Standard tuning always, would be annoying to change each time 1/2 step down or such. especially cause I got a floyd rose.

Btw I hate tabbers who use Drop-D tuning for their tabs, anyway few metal guitarists use it, they usually drop every string the same from standard EADGBE.

I had that pedal it was sweet, fucking intense might get a new one
after I get a HM-2 or get/make a looooow overdrive/fuzz face.

But oddly people seem to play .11 or .13 but usually skip .13
most of the people I've seen anyway. lol weird

i don't know why so many are using the boss metal zone... i tried it and imo its less brutal than the digitech death metal... strange...

Yup, the boss pedal (I also have that one as a back-up) lacks power.

Hello ppl! I'll use this topic to ask you this:

I've a Ibanez 350 RG DX, that is an awesome guitar, but like Yvesson's, it also has a floyd rose. That's becoming a problem for me, 'cause I want to play in different tunes. So I'm thinking in change the guitar; what can you suggest guys? There're so many options that I'm confused Smile

Btw, I use .009 D'addario strings.

Yeah, Ibanez have good - and also cheap in comparison - guitars, good stuff for little money. My main guitar is this thingie here (couldn't find a 100% fitting image, sorry):

Mine is missing that metal plate and has only a volume knob. The tremolo bar is lacquered in black color.

I play .011 tuned standard and use the metal zone pedal, I tried the death metal pedal and didn't think it was as good, too thin.

got a cheap Stageworks PA that I play on, use the metal zone as pre-amp.

my guitar is, or was actually, a warlock platinum series, black with a black widow headstock. Inexpensive but decent guitar, and looks awesome, too bad I smashed it, I'll take a picture tommorrow and post it in its sad state of destruction. Haven't had the courage to throw it away yet.
