Thanks, DM, I feel relieved now. You're definitely right about the difference between an on-line radio community and a CD player. People come here because the station is not as boring as their own (even shuffled) playlists.
Peace

Locking by length... Limiting number of requests by time...

Those are the core of authoritarian rules. I don't like authoritarian systems. I know I live below several ones (i'm not talking about governments), but they are hidden or there is no way to do them less absolutists.

Here the rules are simple, there are few players and the events occur in front of our noses. No need for absolutism here.

Seclu, the problem posed is, by it's own nature, about counting, yes. But a solution involving "lock" or "limit" is far from be an "universal" one. An Universal solution will have simple rules based on fundamental elements of the problem: time of a song & number of requesters.

I think I have learned to think "universaly" much time ago.

OK!

Ah, and on defense of the current system, I had forgot the "time to be played again". It is the more draconian of the rules here but have his role, not on control queue length, but on control of queue diversity.

this leads me to assume u aint got nothing to say at all, or no other solution or you just neglect that the topic is important to some listeners.

hehe, I do request some long doom songs, but if the queue is over 1.5 h I don't.. sometimes I can even be a nice guy and request only normal songs..
I don't know if this thread will change something to DFM, but I'm sure that any change would please some and infuriate others.. freakin' democracy.. I hate it.. Cool

You are definately wrong. "Another winey thread" would just complain..But this is no complain but finding a pratical solution for all maybe Jeric can pick cherries to maybe a policy for all.

but you know that nearly never everybody will like the system how it works... for example i think if i would have only a limited number of reqs a day that it sucks just more not to be a RIP and i begin to think if everything becomes commercial here... the next step would be new only new registered members have a few "free" reqs.. and then you'll have to pay... c'mon stop limiting every shit

EDIT: and btw... rising the no-repeat time would suck definetly if you want to hear new addings... someone requested a song from a new album when you wasn't there and then you want to wait longer than 5 days to hear it?

How about a repeat time by song lenght?
Up to 6 minutes as usual, then 6 days for a song above 6 minutes, 7 for >7
and so on, more equality 'cause why a song running only 2 minutes is out for
the same time as a song of 20 what also "costs" only one request?
Additionally perhaps a diversified ranking for RIP's, means if someone wants
to make more req's the price could be increased, law of the market, the
station became more popular and the number of members grew, just logical.

How about you start writing the code that does it, Mr. Dilettante? Mad

Sorry, i think 9 hours of work a day are enough, surely such code already
exists, don't want to violate copyrights.
Thought this thread was to suggest ideas, i did, fuck i'm tired to be the
scapegoat for mankind, if you don't like my contributions, who cares.
