First thing I want to get straight. Titties are not pornography.
Being a 32 year old male, of course swirling boobies are not offensive to me. In fact I liked that avatar. I found myself staring at it a little too long. If my 5 year old son, or 8 year old daughter happened to sneak a glimpse over my shoulder and said "what's that Daddy?", I would explain to them what they are without making a big deal about it. In fact I rather explain what those are for instead of what disembowelment is.
Other parents may not be ready to explain that to their kids and I try respect their decision. I think asking someone to remove their avatar because it is offensive to them is a reasonable request. But the other party has the right to be angry about it. This is something that adults should be able to work out with each other.
Where do we draw the line? Sure, we don't want porn on the site. So what is porn? I'll keep it simple, images of genitals. Lets keep that out and leave the rest to common sense.
To be offended by a woman's breasts is a bit absurd to me. This is a Christian "moral value" that has been pushed on us for many generations, and it's tough to overcome. Given the current audience at DFM, I would expect most of you to revolt this repressive ideal. I believe a woman's body is a beautiful thing and we shouldn't be made to feel guilty about it.
I've reopened this topic for civil debate. I urge you to practice tolerance and respect. If it gets out of hand again it will be locked permanently. _________________ "It's all Venger's fault! We oughtta do something about that guy. " -Eric

I sure do think the same
I didn't have any problem with the avatar, but I do understand
that some people might find it disturbing/offensive/... to themselves
or their family. _________________ We were, fair queen,

OK, since I started this, time for me to weigh in. First of all, Jem and I have resolved our differences, so that's a closed subject. Second of all, if the forum software allowed it I would just turn off the avatars, especially at work. VBulletin allows that, I guess this software doesn't. And, like Jeric said, being a normal grownup male, I like titties, boobies or whatever you want to call them as much as the next guy. But, some people are offended or just don't feel its appropriate, and in my circumstance my main complaint was the occasional viewing of this forum at work. Bad thing, I don't want to get in BIG trouble there. And, my wife views this now and then, and SHE finds nudity offensive when it is public (which this is), so that was my other big problem. But, like I said earlier, it has always been my experience that if a member of a forum is offended by something another member does, and it is for a valid reason (not just because they don't like each other), then proper nettiquette usually would mean the member would remove the offensive material.
That's all I have on this subject. _________________ Not dead, just sleeping.

Though I agree with you when talking about that Christian "moral value" and the beauty of a body, I can't help myself finding the image that started all of this at least discriminating, probably because the animation made it feel aggressive. I mean, wth, I'm not a les, get her outta here! _________________ diginferno

When in front of a non-numeric, conceptual problem, I use to write a (free) list of words related to it, like this below:
metal, generations, metal genres, ages, tolerance, forum, chat, avatar,
songs, album cover art, community, coexistence, friendship, enemy, countries,
cultures, sex, music, ideas, reality, world, action, health, aggression, pornography,
tities, cunt, prick, youth, elder, respect, peace, fight, opinion, belief, confidence,
family, worth, education, moral, metal, generations, conflict
no, yes
As one can sees, two words are doubled: metal and generations. Metal, obviously is related with the radio and is its reason for existence. It precedes us on a causal view.
Generations, on the other side is the core of the present problem. We are a community with a respectable range of ages. People like me, Berto, CJ and digi, well know how difficult is to understand today's youth minds, as were for our fathers understand ours ones, when we were teens. And as the thing is not bipolar, there is a sort of ages covering since the 12 y.o. boy til 52 y.o. CJ. This includes JERIC, Blasph, JG and D_M, whom are in the middle.
I asked (15 or 20 minutes ago) Léo (my 12 y.o. son) if old jem's avatar was aggressive to him somehow. Of course he answered "no way dad". I exposed the case to him, and he argued that he has contact with this type of image on television even. So I put myself to think how to contribute positively here. I still having no answer, but I want to say that I will think better before attack some youngest's positions.
Hope this could help someway.

so much fuzz for a pair of tities.. I hardly believe that today's kids are even impressed with that kind of images..
it is not porn, and in the end what's more obscene: sex, nudity or violence?.. I vote for violence, we should keep kids away from that kind of stuff.. playing violent games (hell, all games are violent today) is much more harmful then starring at some tities..
still, everyone is entitled to an opinion, I just expressed my own.. _________________ None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free - Goethe

Speaking of porn vs. art, maybe anyone wants to compare the avatar we're talking about with this image?
I hope I made myself clear this time.
