I just requested Whitechapel and under genre it said 'Deathcore'!!!!

What the fuck is that? Surely its just plain death metal! Why complicate things with gay little sub genres?

1. Can't death.fm just use death, black and doom metal as genres?
2. Can someone explain what the fuck 'Deathcore' is and how to differentiate between it and deathmetal.

Evil or Very Mad

Agree on all points. These sub-sub-genres piss me off.

Is this a by product of getting older do you think CJ and the inability to welcome change? Smile Wink

In respect to point 2 of my post, don't bother, I'm not fucking interested in knnowing what the difference is, its too annoying to know. I'll just keep to my own genres and fuck the stupid shit ones.

All I know is the first band I heard using 'DeathCore' as thier musical genre was Despised Icon, I guess it has 'break downs' like Hardcore, but everything else like Death Metal, sub genres annoy me, I usually just describe bands as Metal, but then expand on what they sing about, or the themes of the band, not the sub genre. If your a metal band and talk about killings and death, well surprise, you are probably in the Death Metal genre, so on and so forth for the other genres, seems like people describe the band through the genres not the music. Just like 'MetalCore', it's still Metal just with a twist of Hardcore, none the less same elements and usually same song topics.

i DON't agree.... you start whining again...

deathcore isn't a special genre like "suicide blackmetal", just a mixture of death and hardcore.

You have a problem with black death metal too?

Wtf don't you have more important problems? i think its good to now if a band plays death grind or melo death, becuase melo death sucks and so i don't listen to it, ha! Wink

I fully agree with Waffen (and CJ & Vile)

We would have a minimal set in a [b]primary[/] classification. For instance, Black, Death and Doom. From each, sub-genres would be detailed.

Wurst, be comprehensive, dude. You and others here have a more accurate knowledge on musical themes concerning metal.

For me it's difficult do distinguish between Black and Death sometimes even. Mr. Green

Fuck subtleness. I know what I like and I don't care if you call it candycane metal. Grin

what about 'slightly satanic with a hint of gore metal'??? Thats the sort of genres we'll start getting if this isn't nipped in the bud.

Does this mean you'll shut up and refrain from the forums from now on Wurst?

Some of these detailed genres you see are described by the band or label itself. That is what my first preference is to supply as the official genre. If "slightly satanic with a hint of gore metal" is the self-proclaimed genre, I will put it down as that. Because you never know, they might be the inventors of that genre that hundreds of bands try to duplicate after that. Smile

But I don't want to play the genre wars game. We could just replace Genre with Styles. So instead of

Genre: Blackened Death Metal

it could be

Style(s): Black, Death

BTW, if you think Death, Black, Doom are the basic genres, what about Grind? I think it is distinct enough style that I would want to avoid requesting. Wink
