Waffen: thx for objective post

Jeric: thats pettifoggery... how do we want to decide what styles are important... what is for example with gothic... or grind as you mentioned. I don't understand where the problem shall be if we let it as it is.

Back to topic:

Waffen you don't understand some of the subgenres. (your own declaration)

You don't like that there are so many subgenres. (conclusion to it)

And now you want them changed to some standard. (your own declaration)

What about MUCH work? and WHO wil do this? we already had a discussion about a think similar to this and the conclusion was : too much work / too less a problem to do the work.

It is a lot of work, with little to gain as a result. If we can come up with a consistent standard that everyone agrees with, BQ & I are willing to put in some man hours for this if it is that important to the Death.FM community.

Maybe Wurst is right (my own declaration)

But this dosen't mean I'm not gonna voice my opinion on stuff that I hate/like. Being infantile is something many people don't understand because they grow out of it. Don't inconsideratley judge those of us who haven't grown out of it Wurst ok!

It dosnt matter what genre is listed the point is to give the person an idea on what the band sounds like

*** start of example ***
In the Shopping Center industry we have a similar problem. There were clothes stores, electro/electronics stores, food court, services, etc. These are the mix groups.

On clothes stores, there were some are for men, some for women, some for children, some for all, some for shoes only, some for accessories, and so on. These are the clothes subgroups.

Sometimes one wants to see statistics about the shopping at all, comparing groups. Sometimes one wants to compare subgroups of one group. Nobody wants to compare all subgroups (of all groups) together.
*** end of example ***

We cannot have distinct fields for genre and subgenre. But we could have a organized <genre - subgenre> pattern in the only field.

Both sides are rigth. Genres are the major clustering, serving for instance to form distinct groups for an Awards. Subgenres are useful for "to give the person an idea on what the band sounds like" as Wally well said.
Kids, don't fight Smile. Let us do it in a constructive way. OK!

I just wanted to say that Deathcore is Hardcore with Death Metal. There are often Breakdowns, and they use this typically "Core-Riffing". They use Pig Squeals, Screams and Growls as Vocals. So its not really normal Death Metal Wink
