Today Turkey will play vs. Germany the whole day at work all were talking about.
Usually they say "taxes / gas prices too high / everything sux fuck our country"
but on game day they're patriots, question is, why?
For instance, in my "life" i met about, let's estimate, about 1000 German people.
Not even 10 of them weren't arseholes and in the ranking of most hated
persons they hold positions 1-900+.
People from Turkey i only know 10 maybe, mostly from my local fast food
shop, they were neighbors of mine for a while, never had trouble, all of them
are very kind, don't take drugs (alcohol counts) no lying hypocrite bastards.
So why the hell i should support a country suppressing me by stupid laws
protecting people i just hate or a flag most so-called "patriots" don't even
know the colors came from the riders of Lützow, a Prussian general who
fought valiantly against French invaders in the battle of Leipzig in 1813 and
his troops wore black uniforms with red stripes and golden buttons.
Nevertheless, may the better team win (GO GERMANY !!!) and we're all happy.
Thx for your attention.

blasph patriotism is more an utopic ideal, you only remember your true color when you are in deep shit or theres a football game since you want your utopic idea of better nation, better genes, to survive, its like a reflection...
Or maybe i should quit thinking, meh... you choose |

Patriotism is o.k., so long as it didn´t influenced by blind fanatism, racism and excessive idealism... IMO _________________ "More Whisky!" was my answer

Yes, SK37 Patriotism should be the peaceful keep and pride of customs, traditions, language and history.
But all is a matter of communication potencial, since the current differences are result of geografical isolation, which day-by-day is less important and sensitive.
We are going to a great unified culture, with some local different habits much more linked to cities paticularities than to countries ones. |

Indeed, Pesa. I'm having a hard time trying to define patriotism in the age of globalization. Maybe we should relate to extraterrestrial civilizations?

I agree with you Blas. Here in Brasil is worst, imo. Corruption destroy people, the government looks like a stand rock, the system is all messed up. Now, put a World Cup to see what happen... People go insane! In stadiums they sing: "Eu sou brasileiro com muito orgulho, com muito amor" (something like "I'm proud to be brazilian and i love to be one"), wich is senseless if you analyze their daily life. Imo you just can't put "Patriotism" and "Sports" in the same bag...
Scaping a little bit from the topic's suject, sometimes I think about the Amazon Forest. Slowly all the world is turning eyes to it, because understands the importance it. So a "Amazon is ours" propaganda is growing around here, wich (correct me if i'm wrong) can be an act of patriotism. Well, another stupid thing because governament just can't control deforestation. So I see another paradox: Amazon is ours, but we are destroying it... so whats the point?
Needless to say that I'm not a patriot. At least not anymore (I was a little bit, just see my Avatar pic). I'm quite disapointed with my country and the government... well just living here to understand it, right Pesa? |

I hate my country and am not patriotic in the slightest. I'm a diehard rugby fan and support the England rugby Wermacht unto death but I'm not patriotic. I understand it and for me its fine when people love their country, more people should. If you live somewhere where you can love your counrty then lucky you. _________________ Its a trick.......get an axe! |
