I prefer thrillers and David Cronenberg's surreal sci-fi or weird tales. Take "Scanners" for example. Or "Videodrome".

Or "Anamorph". Or the good ole Hannibal Lecter stories.

I also like Cronenberg films, especially Naked Lunch. I saw Anamorph and I wasn't impressed. It had a really good buildup but the ending was retarded.

My favorite gore films are the Evil Dead series and Dead Alive by Peter Jackson. Not many movies can really scare me though except for Mulholland Drive. That's probably the scariest movie I've ever seen. David Lynch isn't really a horror director but his films are terrifying on a cerebral level.
