To determine the best time slot:

1) figure out where everyone lives, and thus what their time zone is. This can be configured by the IP, I'm sure.

2) take the average of all collected time zones, and slot the Hour of Death appropriately.

Yes, not everyone on the station is going to be able to listen to the Hour of Death at the same time. Yes, it has the tendancy to favor one area of people over another. A way to fix this, I think, is to have two Hours of Death. Just separate them by 12 hours or something. So, technically, you have two a day, but that may average it out better. Opinions?

Another approach would be to have an on-demand stream available to the registered users. This way, anyone could listen to that specific stream without being constrained by time zone differences. I've seen such streams on another site but I don't know what the technical implications of such an implementation would be.

Maybe one album could be available for a week, then the content could be changed. Also, the impact on the main station would be minimal, since some of the online users/listeners may not want to listen to a whole album at that time.

That does sound interesting, I wonder if there are any legal restrictions on that, though.

The place I've seen that done is a romanian national radio station, I think there has to be some legal way to do it, since that's an official station. Here's the link for their rare albums section of the site: http://www.radio3net.ro/index.php?cx=albume_rare

Sorry, the site interface is only available in romanian and I think you should use Internet Explorer to be able to play those albums.
