Definatly their darkest album to date....I hated Thornography, it was too mainstream. Then they came out with this album...darker and harder than Nymphetamine, or even Midian....

“Godspeed On The Devils Thunder – The Life And Crimes Of Gilles De Rais” is an excellent return to the more older style of CoF, and one fans of both older and newer era Cradle will highly enjoy.
A concept album based on the infamous French nobleman Gilles De Rais, Godspeed takes you on a spellbinding journey through the life and crimes of Gilles De Rais; a tale where Dani Filth spares no gory detail with his usual dark and complex lyrics.
Cradle unleash their new drummer, Martin Skaroupka, for the first time on this album, and his drumming style is excellent, reminiscent of Nick Barkers drumming on the earlier Cradle works. To me Skaroupka is one of the main reasons for the return to the more aggressive Cradle, as he brings more interest and variety into the drums and complements the other instruments very well.
The limited edition of this album also contains other various materials, including a well executed cover of Celtic Frost’s “Into The Crypts Of Rays”, which fits in with the concept of this album due to the lyrical matter of this song also covering the life and crimes of Gilles De Rais.
This is one of those albums that must be listened through from the beginning to the end to be able to fully comprehend the complexity and majesty of what Dani Filth and co. have accomplished with this release, “Godspeed On The Devils Thunder” is simply a magnificent album, and has become a personal favourite of mine.
