|
Yesterday I mentioned I was going thru some old stuff and found Fenriz's solo project I hadn't listened to in ages. Then I started digging around and found that a lot of the REALLY early bm is not on here, just wondering what the reception would be for suggesting some of the really early shit, or is this for a whole other radio station, classic bm? Anyway, some names I came up with:
Sarcofago, really early Brazilian band
Mercyful Fate, Danish first wave band
Tormentor, from Hungary
Aura Noir, one of my favorites form long ago
Sodom, these guys are OLD by now, but still around
Destruction, early stuff, but still around.
There's others, but these are good ones. _________________ Not dead, just sleeping.

Mercyful Fate was requested by irule recently, but doesn't fit in here imo,
although i like King Diamond and his voice.
Sodom and Destruction same, have almost all of their old stuff, Destruction
is Thrash, only Sodom's first EP is BM, often said, no Thrash on DFM.
Concerning the other bands i'm not an expert, therefore no comment. |

Wrote to the Sarcofago thread, now there's a comment, still no idea of
Aura Noir and Tormentor (except 2 coverversions of Dark Funeral + Infernal)
and still no to Destruction and Sodom, although i love both, they're Thrash
and don't fit in DFM.

If you want some samples of this really early stuff, including Sarcofago and Aura Noir get ahold of a cd that came out a couple years ago, its called "Fenriz Presents: The Best of Old School Black Metal", it has the above named plus Celtic Frost, Mercyful Fate, Sodom, Tormentor, Destruction, Samael, Bull Dozers, Mayhem, Hellhammer, Venom and Bathory (and Burzum ). _________________ Not dead, just sleeping.

Surely these bands are the roots of BM, but in cases of Destrucion & Sodom,
of whom i'm a fan, collector + expert, i'm still the opinion, with the exception
of Sodom's 1st EP they don't fit into DFM, both + Kreator were called the
big 3 of German Thrash and they never said they're playing BM, Metal
Archives says same, Destruction=Thrash, Sodom= Black (only In the Sign...
fits into that category) / Speed (???) / Thrash.
Mercyful Fate? No. Great influential band, but not BM in a current sense.
Celtic Frost definitely yes.
Music + lyrics fit, at least first releases are classics and sparked the genre. |

Yep, what I'm referring to mostly is very early stuff from the bands, often a first album, after which their musical direction changes drastically. We've seen in many times, sometimes not after a first, but after several. A good recent example is Katatonia, they now sound EXACTLY like Tool. _________________ Not dead, just sleeping.
