First of all, greetings and welcome on Death.FM.
Second (before the flaming starts), you probably won't get System Of A Down on this radio seeing as it's not death / black / gothic metal (which most of the groups on this radio are). If you DO want them to be added to the playlist, go to the Forums and post them under Playlist but remember to read the sticky. As I've said before, I doubt it very much that SOAD is going to get added... |

Guessing I'm not too welcome here at the moment then? I'm a bit of a death etc. virgin (as you may have guessed) but all I know is that I like what I hear on this site and places like this. could anyone recommend some staple albums I should buy? |

You're very welcome here.
I'd start at the Top 20 Albums here.

I'd recommend.....
Death Metal
Disincarnate - Dreams of the Carrion Kind (oldschool Death/thrash)
Cryptopsy - None So Vile ( death/grind )
Beheaded - Recounts of Disembodiment (brutal death )
Demilich - Nespithe (oldschool prog. death)
Gorguts - all of the albums (technical death)
Morpheus Descends - Ritual of Infinity ( New York death metal)
The Chasm - Deathcult for Eternity : the triumph (death metal with some black metal influences)
Black Metal ( I'm not big on bm)
Burzum - Burzum/Aske
Bathory - Blood, Fire, Death
Emperor - In the Nightside Eclipse
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon
Enslaved - Vikinglr Veldi
Graveland - Thousand Swords
These may not be "beginners" albums.....but theyre definately essentials. I listed a lot of different styles, so i'd suggest seeing which kind of death or black metal you like before buying albums. Most of all I'd suggest tuning into Death.FM too see what genres/sounds you like. Hope this helped _________________ "Nowadays, I don''t think there''s a real separation anymore. being a death/black 'virgin' as you call yourself, it might also be a good idea to start with the more 'commercial' black metal bands (and no, i do not want to start a sellout-no sellout discussion), such as cradle of filth (albums dusk and her embrace, cruelty and the beast) and dimmu borgir (albums enthrone darkness thriumphant and stormblast). They are quite melodic but have a healthy dose of heavy passages as well... and great voices _________________ On a thin precipice over carnal abyss
