I was recently talking to a friend who lives in Malaysia and I spoke about Black Metal. To my surprise I found out that Black Metal is totally banned there. If you are found listening to it you will be sent to a Holy Study detention centre and in worst case, jailed.

The reason behind it is that they see it as a type of "Cult" thing.

Rather extreme measures I think.

Not sure if some of you knew or not but thought it was worth mentioning.

Hmm it is strange. But they got hard laws in Malaysia and also in Singapore. If you spit a chewing gum on the street for example, u get 10 hits on the back with a bamboo stick...
but black metal forbidden? that does not make much sense in my opinion. Especially for malaysia is not a christian country but muslim....
this is one of the most stupid laws i have heard of. almost as stupid as some us laws. in some state it is forbidden to wear a red dress on sundays.....and I guess u all know some of those laws.

One more important thing is, that if you forbid Black metal, it is a kind of censorship. how can u forbid any kind of music or art? this takes freedom off the ppl living in malaysia. and what about for example death metal? is it also forbidden there? who says which kind of music is black? so who judges this???
questions and questions ....

Wasn't that also there where you would get the death sentence for smoking outdoors ? As far as I know some bands also canceled their shows there because the government possibly would jail them or send them home right after their plane landed.

Just fucking stupid to be a muslim or christian country and then ban music... sounds like "bigotry" to me.
