I dont think the only thing that defines a communist system is more control in the hands of the government, it is far more complicated a transformation in my opinion. Just having a bigger government is unlikely to turn the USA into the old Soviet Union even over many decades of similar government policies. I think communism has more to do with the failure of people to protest big goverment and stop the changeover to a communist system. That is also why it has been successful for long periods of time in some countries where citizens are used to being ruled over. It is impossible that a communist system could be set up in the USA because of the basic principles of freedom inherent in the minds of its people. Also, history shows that the switchover to communism is seldom a gradual process, it is generally violent and swift |

I don't think that Lenin and the Bolsheviks got up one morning and decided to kill the Tsar and his family and start a new political movement called Socialism. |

No they didnt What i meant was that the Tsars ruled under a similar authoritarian system as the Soviets and most of the Russian people had willingly accepted his authority for hundreds of years. It was merely a convincing of the mindsets of the people to accept a different form of rule and economy which created the USSR. The point i was trying to make earlier was that if people are living in a free society as in the USA, it cannot be compared with a shift to communism as which took place in the Old Soviet Union. Russians were ruled for over 300 years by the Romanovs (the longest lasting monarchy in Europe) before the Red Revolution. Has the USA had anything similar?
I agree with you on the fact that the conditions needed for such a change were difficult to acheive. Lenin and the bolsheviks could not have foreseen the state of Tsarist Russia during World War I and the economic disasters the country faced |

England was ruled by a King for over eight centuries with more than half those years using Serfdom as the economic system, yet there was no Socialist Revolution there. The USA is following a path of destruction. Maybe it will not turn into communism per se, but the Republic as it was created will cease to exist unless Goverment gets out of the way. It looks more like it's turning into a lite form of Fascism. |
