Diving into In The Woods' album "Omnio" is a deeply rewarding journey into the heart of progressive and atmospheric metal. Released in 1997, "Omnio" stands as a testament to the band's innovative spirit, pushing the boundaries of metal into unexplored realms of musical expression.
From the very first track, "Omnio?," the listener is enveloped in a haunting atmosphere, where ethereal melodies seamlessly blend with powerful guitar riffs and intricate drum patterns. The album's sonic landscape is rich and diverse, ranging from moments of melancholic introspection to explosive bursts of energy.
The intricate songwriting and poetic lyricism create a sense of profound introspection, drawing the listener into a world of existential contemplation. Tracks like "299 796 km/s" showcase the band's ability to seamlessly merge atmospheric passages with intense metal riffing, creating a dynamic and immersive experience. The haunting vocals, alternating between clean and harsh, add layers of complexity to the album, enhancing its emotional depth.
One of the standout features of "Omnio" is its ability to create vivid imagery through music. Each track feels like a sonic painting, with meticulous attention to detail. The use of unconventional instruments and ambient elements further enhances the album's unique identity, making it a true masterpiece in the realm of avant-garde metal.

Probably a lesser known band for a lot, but this album created a pathway for the band, and the style they play.
Vocals cold, yet filling, instruments that weep as it's played, an ensemble of emotions with every note that is heard.
Truly a album amongst albums, and a literal GEM fr it's time.

This album will be hated by the majority here because of the female vocals, and it is very slow and doomy for the most part. But there's some really good song writing and musicianship going on here, and the vocalist (Lori Lewis) has an incredible voice.
I love this album and it's mostly because I got to see them live back in 2007 in San Francisco when they opened for Therion. It was the first show of the tour so both bands were very excited and full of energy. I was lucky enough to make it to the front and I know no one will ever believe me but I swear, while headbanging to "Hymn To The Sun" I looked up and Lori Lewis was looking right at me and she gave me gave this nod like, "Yeah, you like this shit don't you?" True story.
Therion went on after (with Lori Lewis) and killed it of course, and I bought this album on the way out the door and it quickly became one of my favorites. It may not be the heaviest album ever or have grunty vocals, but between the dark nature of the album and the awesome guitar work, it's fucking metal enough to be here \m/

This album is an instant classic |

What a great album! American Black Metal, and every song is great with no bad moments. If you like raw Black Metal with some melodic sections then I highly recommend this album and band.

Original is one 45 minute long track. I had to split into parts to play at DFM.
