You all are missing the point. It's not which track is your favorite... It's, have you ever noticed that a track number has been kind to you. #4 always seems to rock for me.

now that i come to think of it, it's not usually one particular track number, but more a range of numbers.... and as you said JERIC, 4 seems about right... I'd just like to broaden that to say 3-6. So much amazing music falls in that area... One by Metallica, Black Rose Immortal and the Drapery Falls by Opeth, Metropolis and Erotomania by Dream Theater, the list goes on and on...

Track 2 is like the beginning of a movie after the opening credits (which would be track 1). It has to impress the listener more than any other track to keep the listener's attention. The industry used to generally make the "single" track 1, but I've noticed these days that Track 1 is usually just a warm-up (or an intro -- especially in black/death metal). An album has a flow about it. It's not always the same flow, but a strong song #2 is essential.
