You can do great sounding stuff with that instruments and it doesn't only fit into gothic metal. Maybe Synths as a second option but too much electronic shit shouldn't be in metal IMO; maybe for some ambient black metal. |

besides it sounds more heavy than keyboards. |

Re: What element would you add first to a basic metal line-u (Score: 1) by SeclusionSolution on Friday, June 27, 2008 (User Info | Send a Message) | After short thought it cleary became piano for me. It´s a very organic sound for it´s analogous play. It perfectly transports the interpreter´s feeling and mood. It can be played slow, fast, joyous , sluggish, sensitive , voluminous.
It´s perfect intro ,outro or background addition. The variety can be yet changed immediately but still keeping the flow smooth.
Back to the mood: I think it´s the elongation of emotion, cause it´s played with hands - ok all said can be done with others as well like flutes ,guitars, drums - but here it comes for me what´s a difference there:
It can be played just by hands without being dependend of breath or power. The hands of humans as having the highest concentration of nerval haptic can develope the greatest sensitivity towards the instrument which is mechanically
translated by hammers 1:1 giving birth to endless swing of strings which innervate the air.
A guitar is also haptic but can´t be played agressive if analogous cause it has to be hacked then and loses swing. Also it don´t has so much corpus capacity to sound strong then. If electrical it´s all the same plain volume from the amplifier.
drums also haptic and can be played quit and forecful but don´t have a long swing but a short flourish.
flutes and all haptic instruments played with breath depend on the two regulating parameters: hands and lung volumes. Some (aprox. trumpet) need a minimum of inital air compression to make a sound. So sometimes it´s hard to keep it quit ( i know some good players can) and express all the changing moods. |

I think that instrument has everything to pass the most dark doomed and frighting atmosphere. Somehow it sounds same dark in every style from black metal, doom (My Dying Bride) to grind (Phlebotomized).. I think.
I really do like that instr. |
